What's My Approach?
Libbey is a personal injury lawyer and criminal defense attorney. She originally came to use several years ago for dating profile portraits, and now with a new website for her law firm, she was ready for personal branding photography. During her consultation, she mentioned she was looking for a clean and minimalistic feel where the focus was on her rather than a busy background. At the same time, though, she wanted to avoid having her personal branding photography look boring and wanted to show off her personality by conveying a warm, yet fresh and approachable energy. So it stands to reason that we chose our Maryland photography studio as the setting for Libbey's personal branding photography session. (By the way, in need of an attorney like Libbey? What is Personal Branding?
Personal branding is the ongoing conscious process and intentionally uniform effort to create and maintain public reputation. Your personal brand and your personal branding photography are unique to you, your personality, and the combination of skills and experiences that you hold. With personal branding and personal branding photography, you are establishing and promoting who you are and what you stand for. Here are some things to keep in mind when developing your personal brand:
- Be Authentic
In previous blog posts, we have talked about the importance of being authentic. We want to mention it again because it's so IMPORTANT! Millennials dominate consumer spending, and they are looking for brands that they can trust and that align with their values. These consumers and the generations that follow can spot disingenuous acts in a split second. And not only will you burn out on "keeping up the act," but in the process of losing yourself, you'll also lose your audience, and your business will suffer.
- Be Consistent
This one speaks a little for itself, but it's also often one people forget. Don't underestimate the importance of tiny details, as they can easily derail brand effectiveness.
- Be Ready
This can apply to many aspects of your business. They say that luck is when preparation meets opportunity, and that failing 1,000 times just means you have found 1,000 ways that things don't work. So whether it's to leap or fail, be ready!
- Be Seen
Personal branding photography has never been as important as it is today. Consumers want to see your face! You've heard the saying that a portrait is worth a thousand words. Well, it's worth a lot more than that when it comes to business branding. Showing your face creates connection, recognition and genuine trust more than any logo ever will. Even online. People want to identify with the companies they frequent, and allowing people to relate to you provides huge value to both you and your business.
