Maria used to work for Professional Photographers of America (PPA) in Georgia, and as a long-time PPA member, I was really delighted when her e-mail popped into my inbox:
“You probably don’t remember me (or maybe you do) from my days at PPA, but I now live and work in the DC area! I’m also no longer in the photography industry but am still doing government affairs… I’d love to get an updated head shot for LinkedIn and other professional media… Please feel free to drop me an e-mail at this address or perhaps we can set up a time to chat by phone.”
Of course I remembered Maria! I could never forget the assistance and guidance that we were lucky enough to have from her on numerous subjects over multiple years, and I was flattered that she would think of us for her head shot photography needs, of the hundreds or even thousands of PPA members in the Washington DC area.
When we chatted on the phone about her vision for her updated head shot, she opted for an environmental head shot (as opposed to a studio-style head shot on a backdrop), because an environmental head shot would be more different and set her apart from the crowd. A few weeks later, when Maria came to our suburban Maryland photography studio, and I took her on a little tour of the areas that we could photograph in and furniture and decor we could use as props or backgrounds, Maria chose to be photographed on lime artwork (which happened to be a composition of three photographs that I had created). I must say, Maria looks awesome in her updated head shots!
