Hey fabulous ladies! I’m turning 50 this month. Who here is turning 50 with me? I read today about a new study by researchers at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis and Stony Brook University. These super-intelligent people over there say that all this time, we’ve had the wrong thoughts about old age, and that age is about a whole lot more than just the number of years we’ve been walking around on Earth.
“Age can be measured as the time already lived or it can be adjusted taking into account the time left to live,” says Sergi Scherbov, the study’s lead author. “Someone who is 60-years old today, I would argue, is middle-aged. Two hundred years ago, a 60-year old would be a very old person.”
So, we lucky ducklings need not fear the big 5-0. We’re not even 60 yet, and even 60 is not old!
Now where does photography come into this? Photography is that magical art of freezing moments in time. But it's not just about snapshots; it's about celebrating ourselves, our stories, and our incredible journey. And while we 50-year-olds are not old, we do have incredible stories to tell and we’ve had an incredible journey across half a century already. And that’s why I started the 50 Over 50 & Fabulous Photography Project to embrace the beauty of aging at 50+. The 50 Over 50 Project is about capturing the essence of who you are at this very moment – a time of wisdom, growth, and, most importantly, unapologetic self-love – through photography.
Featured in this blog post are photos of the fabulous Jamie at the youthful age of 51.
Embracing Every Laugh Line
Let's be real. Those laugh lines and crow's feet are like badges of honor. Each one tells a story… a tale of a life well-lived. So why not celebrate them? A great photograph has the power to showcase the beauty in those lines - the depth of your experiences etched on your face.
Finding Confidence in Every Click of the Shutter
In a world obsessed with youth, women in their 50s are rewriting the rules. Confidence is not about age; it's about embracing who you are. A photo session is a chance to step in front of the camera and say, "This is me, and I am fabulous!" It's a celebration of self-assurance and a reminder that you are stunning at any age.
Documenting New Beginnings
Your 50s might just be the start of a whole new chapter. Empty nest? New career? Pursuing passions you've put on hold up to now? These are stories worth telling, and what better way to tell them than through the lens? A photo is more than an image. It's a visual narrative of your journey - a story that deserves to be shared.
Connecting Across Generations
In this digital age, sharing moments has never been easier. Photography isn't just about the now - it's about leaving a legacy for generations to come. Your grandkids may not fully understand the trials and triumphs of your life, but a photograph can speak volumes. It's a bridge between generations… a tangible piece of history.
It's a Celebration, Not a Pose
Forget the stiff poses and forced smiles. A photoshoot should be a celebration of you – candid moments, genuine laughter, and authentic expressions. So, throw on your favorite outfits, bring out that infectious smile, and let me, the fabulous 50-year old professional photographer capture the real, unfiltered, and utterly fabulous you.
In conclusion, my fellow fabulous women, let's change the narrative. Let's show the world that 50 is not the end of the road. Rather, it's the beginning of a new, exciting chapter. And what better way to celebrate than through the art of photography?
So, go ahead – book your 50 Over 50 & Fabulous photoshoot, and let’s together show the world the incredible woman you are. Because, darling, you are a timeless masterpiece, and it's high time the world sees it too! Cheers to being fabulous at 50 and beyond!
