"Own YOUR moment"
A Rose in Bloom
Rose is one of the inspiring women featured in the Inaugural Round of our 50 over 50 & Fabulous Project! (Round 2 is ongoing now!) If you have not had the chance to check out our first blog post featuring her first video interview, you can check that out here. And scroll down below for a transcript of her second interview!
Similar to the other women in our project, Rose was on a mission to finally celebrate herself with glamour photography! With her divorce behind her, she was ready to figure out what brought her joy and to focus on that. Another one of her goals with this beauty and glamour photography was to remind other younger girls, including her 12-year-old daughter, that women can't and shouldn't try to be everything to everyone. It's important for women to remember that self-love and self-care are at the forefront of living a happy life.
Earth without ART is just EH
We were able to make for Rose a beautiful Asahi Sunflower cloth folio box with a stunning burgundy ribbon, in which to store her collection of matted portraits.
All of this gorgeous artwork was custom-made for Rose and encapsulates the strength and beauty of character that came out in her glamour photography session.
Rose's 50 Over 50 & Fabulous beauty photography session included a variety of settings, ranging from our flowy fabrics to our glamorous dark hardwood staircase. She also selected a few more casual, but equally fun and stunning, portraits in our morning room, with the eye-catching lime green artwork behind her.

Interview #2's transcript
Irene (Beauty Photographer):
Why don't you just introduce yourself again, this time with just your name and age?
Rose:
My name is Rose, and I'm fifty years old.
Irene (Glamour Photographer):
How did you celebrate turning 50, Rose? And how did it feel?
Rose:
Because of COVID, I had a small celebration with my friends. We spent a wonderful afternoon together at a winery and I took part in this glamour photography session too!
Irene (Beauty Photographer):
Do you think COVID had an impact on how you celebrated turning 50? For instance, what would you have done if it wasn't for COVID?
Rose:
I believe I may have traveled with my friend. We had discussed taking a trip together since we would both turn 50 in the same year.
Irene (Glamour Photographer):
Do you have any ambitions for the future? How have your ambitions changed since you turned 50?
Rose:
I think my ambition now is just to be more present and less goal-oriented. I have a very successful career. I'm happy, but I think my ambition is to learn to live in the present and not just think about the future.
Irene (Beauty Photographer):
Right. Sit and take the time to enjoy life instead of always planning to enjoy life, but it never comes.
Rose:
Yeah, it never comes. Plan less, live more!
Irene (Glamour Photographer):
Are there any myths that you’d like to debunk about turning 50 now that you are here?
Rose:
Oh, my gosh. It's a myth that women in their 50s can't have fun. It's a myth that women's lives end at 50. I'm just getting started, and I'm loving it!
Irene (Beauty Photographer):
Now that you're starting to date, what do you want men to know about women who are 50+?
Rose:
We acquire confidence, resilience, and substance through life.
Irene (Glamour Photographer):
What do you want employers to know about women who are 50+?
Rose:
Flexibility! Flexibility! Flexibility! We can telework. We've proven that with COVID not everybody needs to get in a car and go somewhere.
I think we are amazing assets with our experience and our knowledge. We're not like millennials that just go into a job and leave a year later. We have a more stable workforce, but flexibility makes a world of a difference in terms of scheduling.
Irene (Beauty Photographer):
Do you think that employers will continue to be flexible after COVID?
Rose:
I think Yeah. I'm hearing that people are figuring that out. There are a lot more companies that are allowing staff to work from home.
Irene (Glamour Photographer):
I hear a lot of people saying that they work more hours from home, so companies are benefiting in that sense, right?
Rose:
Yeah, because we are not commuting.
Irene (Beauty Photographer):
Well, we've finished your glamour photography session. How did it feel to be photographed? Did you have fun?
Rose:
I had a lot of fun! I felt a little shy in the beginning, but it was amazing! The photos turned out amazing and the experience was more than I had anticipated in terms of how it made me feel. It was nice to enjoy my feminine side. My daughter was like, "Mom, all of your outfits are pink. You don't wear pink!"
Irene (Glamour Photographer):
Have you shown any of your images to family and friends?
Rose:
I posted them on Facebook because I wanted to let everybody know about the divorce and my turning 50. So I was just like, "I am going to use this and say I'm getting divorced, but here's me!" I got a lot of great responses from family and friends.
Irene (Beauty Photographer):
Are you planning to use some of these now that you're dating?
Rose:
I am! I've been putting them on my dating profile, I updated my LinkedIn profile, and I updated my company's website.
Irene (Glamour Photographer):
Good! Well, I take it from everything that you said, that participating in the 50 over 50 and fabulous project has been worth it. What type of people would you recommend this glamour photography session too?
Rose:
Oh my goodness. My friends who are turning 50 or are already 50. It was just fun! Sometimes, especially if you're a mother, you spend your time taking pictures of your kids and you fade into the background. It's great to turn the focus away from the kids and onto ourselves.
Irene (Beauty Photographer):
Yeah, do not let yourself fade away.
Rose:
Yeah, exactly.
