Did you know that I have a past life? A life pre-photography? I actually worked for 15 years or so in international development and humanitarian aid. When I made the jump to family photographer, I’d been working for the past 6 years for the international non-profit and public health organization, Population Services International. It was at PSI that I met and worked with Charity; I on the program side and Charity in procurement. Charity watched me start my photography business and even brought her sister, Annah, to one of my Africa photography exhibits. So it was really awesome when Charity’s e-mail popped into my inbox five years after I’d left PSI asking about a family photography session for her and her sister and mom while her mom was visiting from Kenya. We had originally planned an outdoor session, but migrated to our backup location – our photography studio in Germantown-Clarksburg, MD – when thunderstorms threatened. At one point, I had Charity and Annah lying on the floor looking up at me. I knew they thought I had completely lost my mind. So pretty cool when that photograph ended up being their favorite one of the two of them!
